Ho`omaka Hou
Residential - “A New Beginning ”
Our Mission:
Basic to MYFS ’ mission statement “to build better
lives with Hawaii ’s families” is helping family members to be
substance free. The primary purpose of the Substance Abuse
Residential Program is to provide adolescents who are experiencing
problems associated with substance abuse, the tools needed to
become drug free and remain abstinent from alcohol and other drugs,
increasing the likelihood of a healthier family unit. These tools
are in the form of education, coping skills, and other concrete
strategies for Mission maintaining a clean and sober
life style. Ho`omaka
Hou Is a program offered by
Maui Youth & Family Services to provide Hawaii with an adolescent
residential substance abuse treatment center in Maui County. MYFS
has expanded its residential services to include emergency youth
shelters, group homes, independent living and community based
residential programs . Ho`omaka Hou provides an alternative to
adolescent residential substance abuse treatment off island.
HO`OMAKA HOU is a residential
substance abuse treatment program for youth whose problems with
alcohol, other drugs, or issues related to substance abuse, warrant
an intensive, structured therapeutic program, combined with a safe,
controlled environment. It is designed to foster chemical
independence for youth ages 12-17 by means of a comprehensive
treatment program. A professional and paraprofessional staff is
trained in substance abuse and adolescent care, and provides youth
with 24 hour supervision.

of a drug-free lifestyle and activities
- An educational component that
provides youth with extensive knowledge and understanding of
substance use and abuse, while addressing the importance of
learning and expanding the skills needed for effective learning
and a positive, healthy life.
- A spiritual component
designed to instill emotional wellbeing and assist individuals
to take control of their lives.

Program Assumptions & Precepts
-
Addiction may best be viewed as the result of some
combination of genetic predisposition, and environmental
factoring.
-
It is possible for all people to remain drug free.
-
The most effective means for long-term abstinence
from alcohol and other drugs is through lifestyle changes including,
but not limited to: active participation in a recovery program,
association with recovering individuals and the establishment of
healthy meaningful relationships with others; involvement in
positive, constructive endeavors and activities; and the recognition
and ability to cope with and change feelings, emotions, and
behavior.
-
Treatment does not operate in a vacuum. For many
individuals, an integral element to recovery concerns the
involvement and support of family and/or significant others. In
every instance possible, the treatment program will seek to
educate, and involve family and significant others in the
youth’s recovery.
